Barriers to communciation

Barriers in general communication.

Problems with technology

In this day of age technology seems to be an essential part of everybody's working life no matter your working background. Yet,  not everybody is up to scratch on the communication side of technology. Such things such as knowing how to use the computer first of all, such as operating the computer to access communication utilities such as Emails and Skype.

Using email services such as Gmail needs some form of experience and/or training to access such things in the email such as contacts, inbox ,sent box and of course creating and sending an email.
These barriers can create problems in the workplace especially if data is needed to be sent over a long distance or if communication is needed between employees. Certain applications such as a firewall could also block communication by blocking certain ports on skype etc.

Barrier used in language

Language of course is another essential part of everyday life but certain language can become a problem for people.
Certain things such as using too advanced language for the audience will make misunderstanding and/or make the intended audience bored and uninterested. Also underwhelming language can make the audience bored as they are already familiar with the subject that is being spoken on.
Of course the actual language being spoken or typed in will need to be in a language that the recipient will understand. For example a person who only speaks English will not be able to understand an email that was typed up in french and also it could be the same case if slang terms were used.

Interpersonal communication barriers

The way in which you present yourself during your presentation is also very important to how your audience is perceiving the presentation.
Tips on how to have good interpersonal communication skills during your presentation.

Learn to listen
Learning to listen to your audience is vital to your presantation as you will also be able to gain feedback and be able to hear the questions the audience will question the presentator.

Stay postive
If you stay postive and cheerful during your presantation you will gain more attention from the audience as the more intrest you give to your work the more intrest you will recieve from your audience.

Stay calm
If you begin to get nervous during your preantation you may speak faster throughout your presantation and may miss key points throughout your presantation.

Interpersonal

Interpersonal is how you present yourself whilst speaking to an audience.
This is important to the speaker as it can be the difference from gaining the interest of your audience to the audience not having any interest what so ever. As if you don't seem interested in your subject, why should the audience be?

Body language
Make a certain amount of eye contact with your audience to show that you are engaging with the audience and have confidence

Don't cross your arms as this shows that you can be defensive Don't fidget about as this can show that you are nervous and smile and laugh with the audience to show that you are a positive person.

How does Interpersonal communication help Rainbow?
Employees within Rainbow will have to make speeches and talk to other members within the company. Therefore the way in which you present yourself whilst communicating will usually determine the outcome of your presentation.

Body language barriers

A first impression can only be made once and it is always our body language that is judged first. Such things can be read as being a personal problem. Such as having your arms folded can be seen as being defencive, messing with your hands, checking the time constantly, during a conversation can show that you are not interested in the conversation. Pointing your finger towards someone can be seen as threatening and rude.

Written communication barriers

Written communication can also be a problem as everybody has their own individual style of writing and therefore not every may be able to understand them as peoples presentation may be poor or too fancy for the intended audience to read. Also the language and punctuation used in the text may be to a poor enough quality for the audience to read properly. Also slang and texting terminology may be inappropriate for the reader to use.
